integrates different areas of knowledge through the organizing of conferences, workshops and other events - gives life to both multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in projects - provides support to the members in terms of intellectual property (ip) and finding funds for joint projects - innovation oriented by challenges in our opinion, demand is what generates good results. for this reason, we use current world’s challenges as fuel and guidance to create innovation that can deliver new technologies and solutions for these issues, transforming real needs into products. - aeronautics - defence and security - sustainable energy - transport and logistics - urban development focus areas aeronautics defence and security sustainable energy transport and logistics urban development aeronautics is a strategic technological area both in brazil and in sweden. brazil is one of the four most important manufacturers of civilian aircraft in the world and sweden, despite its small size, is very successful in manufacturing military aircraft, as well as a supplier of parts to the civilian market. since it employs a series of advanced technology, which produces on going spill-over that go beyond its borders, reaching the automobile industry, the communication industry, etc., this area represents an important innovation element. besides that, the industrial collaboration between the two countries is fundamental also in the field of academic research applied to market needs. so much so that there is the project of developing the next generation of aircraft. by promoting bilateral relations in the field of aeronautics, we create a unique collaboration opportunity in the long term. defence and security are core themes in any governmental agenda, inasmuch as they guarantee the piece of mind and freedom of society. so the two areas have driven the field of strategic studies, involving different areas such as politics, military, economic, psychosocial, science and technology, environment, etc., gathering the collaboration in several sectors to implement efficient solutions. given its importance, the area receives large investments and is responsible for delivering several improvements to society, because the technologies initially developed for military use are later converted and used in the civilian market. a few of these examples are the microwave oven, the pen drive and even the internet. one of the most important challenges of the 21st century is how to build a sustainable future in terms of energy, a fact that was recognized by the kyoto protocol in 1997. it is common knowledge that if the current resource and energetic consumption patterns do not change, we will compromise humanity’s well being in the medium and long term. in order to change this alarming reality, sustainable energy offers the possibility of complying with the demands of human development in its social, economic and environmental dimensions, being generated and provided in a way that does not harm the need of future generations. every human being needs to move in space for the most varied needs: work, leisure, education, health, shopping, etc. and the ways in which this transport happens depends of things such as age, income, education, amongst others. according to the council of supply chain management professionals “logistics is the part of the supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient and economic flow and storage of raw products, semi-finished and ready products, as well as the information related to them, from the point of origin to point of consumption, aiming at complying with clients’ demands”. humanity’s progress has made us increasingly more urban and the exodus of rural areas turned the 21st century into the “century of cities”. as cities and the number of their inhabitants began to grow, so did the problems related to cost management and maintenance of services and infrastructure. however, these challenges can be seen as unique opportunities for what we call “smart cities”. there is a demand for smart cities to be pleasant, creative and inclusive places, where collaborati on thrives, resulting in collective intelligence with the participation of society as a whole. if we want our cities to become smarter, we need to broadly apply technology by means of innovation and new action models. one of the main advantages of smart cities and its policies is economic growth, employment generation and innovation
